Samantha and Joe Todd join the show today to discuss many topics including lifting while pregnant, competition prep, the “bod Pod” and many other topics.
Samantha and Joe are a power couple that know their way around a squat rack. Samantha has competed in a bodybuilding competition and was on her way to compete in a powerlifting show this summer but got the good news she was pregnant. Still wanting to compete in the future she will take it a little easier but by no means has she quit lifting and is still lifting rather heavy by most definitions.
With Samantha being 5 months pregnant this was a perfect opportunity to discuss the topic of lifting while pregnant and whether it’s a good thing or not. Contrary to some belief lifting while a baby is growing inside you is actually a good thing. Samantha tells us that it can actually help with the delivery. Samantha and Joe have talked to their doctor multiple times and while there are some exercises she wants to avoid; overall exercising is a good thing!
Samantha is the health and wellness coordinator for the staff at district 20 and practically grew up in the gym. We learn many things from her in this interview on Under Ten Fitness.
Joe Todd is the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Fort Carson and has much experience himself when It comes to lifting. Joe tells us about his training and diet leading up to his first powerlifting competition coming up in the next few months. His training consists of many aspects but he describes how he is currently working on lifts and his rate of conceived exertion. Joe also tells us about the bod pod which is a device used to measure a person’s body composition.
