The CSPD may no longer have fitness testing which has long been the standard to which officers have been held. A recent story from CBS news reveals that the Colorado Springs Police Department agreed to stop, at least temporarily, physical fitness testing this year after a lawsuit was filed claiming the tests are discriminatory. The physical test consists of two running exams and officers also have to be able to perform 52 push-ups in two minutes and 45 sit-ups in two minutes as well.
If this remains the case it won’t be long until Colorado Springs is the number one crime infested city in America. Without Police Officers physically able to chase down and apprehend the bad guys there will be no one to stop them, oh what a world!!! OK this might be a bit of a slippery slope but doesn’t it make sense to require our police force to maintain a certain level of physical preparedness? What happens when something goes wrong and our men and women in uniform can’t answer the call? What do you think? If your job demanded you to be fit what would you do?
Also think about other professions that require a certain physique. Thousands of military men and women have to pass a physical test each year and what would happen to our military if that was no longer the case?
There are certain jobs out there that you need to be fit for and there are jobs out there where being fit definitely helps. Personal trainers, for example. When you are shopping around for a trainer you’ll probably want one that’s in pretty good shape themselves. I mean if a trainer can’t take care of their own body how could they tell you how to take care of yours. That’s not the only thing that matters when it comes to personal training but it does help.
Finally on this episode we find a new trend in fitness called “Sproing.” It’s hard to explain you can see it HERE. It’s this platform you stand on and hook yourself in. Then you run jump push and pull your way to a fit body. I’m not sure I really understand it but if it works and people are getting stronger, faster, healthier and feel better then I’m all for it.
You can hear it all on this episode of UTF. Let us know what you think and comment below of on our Facebook Page.
