Nicole Arbour is under a lot of scrutiny right now after releasing a YouTube video titled “Dear Fat People.” In the six minute video Nicole fat shames people and delivers her message with jokes and references to television and stereotypes. She goes off on a few tangents but comes back quickly with another punch line directed towards fat people. She tells a story about a time she was at the airport and while she was waiting in line an obese family got to cut in line because their knees hurt and they could not stand for long periods of time. And while she was on the plane the airline attendant asked her if she could move so a passenger with a disability could sit next to her. Nicole happily agrees and to her surprise it was one of the obese individuals who got to cut in line. Nicole shares her anger for having to move and describes the rest of her flight as having to push the fat of the obese person back into their own seat as it was overflowing into her seat. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction (Isaac Newton).
After watching her video a YouTuber that goes by the name Boogie2988 replies to her video which he took very personally. Being overweight himself he describes firsthand how it feels to be fat shamed and explains that weight isn’t the only issue and if it not just as easy as eating healthy and exercising. There are a lot more issues that come in to play with a person who is obese and it’s not as simple as one who does not struggle with obesity may think.
