The newest trend in the health and fitness world isn’t a new crazy workout that promises perfect abs in 32 seconds or how to add 100 pounds to your bench press in a matter of seconds. It’s not even a magical new diet supplement that you simply take after you eat that makes even the most decadent cheese cake calorie free. Its bugs!
Yep the new trend in the fitness world is a new protein source coming from bugs but not just a random collection of bugs a very specific one. Crickets have found their way into the fitness world boasting that they have everything that you could want from a protein and more.
On this episode of Under Ten Fitness Drew Smith and his girlfriend Brittany Meier talk more about this trend and even better they have a few cricket protein bars to try for themselves! We ordered a variety pack of “EXO” protein bars made with real crickets and give them a try for the first time live on the show.
They say that crickets are a more economical and sustainable source of protein because they would be easier to raise than cattle for whey protein that is made from cows milk. Also that a cricket farm would be more cost effective to operate than a soy bean farm.
No matter how economical and sustainable crickets are over cows or any other source of vegetable protein it’s still a bug. However bugs are considered a regular part of the food pyramid in some countries though not very popular in the United States it’s very common to eat bugs of all kinds.
What do you think about crickets or any bug for that matter as a source of protein? Would you eat a bug? If so what bug would you eat? If you try a bug protein bar be sure to tell us all about it and be sure to email Drew@undertenfitness.com and use “Bug Protein” in the subject line.
